Vision therapy is about getting the eyes to work together properly.  However, because the eyes are literally an extension of the brain, getting the eyes to work properly involves a lot more than just getting them to aim straight. You see, when we see in 3D, we need to compare where one object is relative to another object. This means that our eyes have to pay attention to more than one thing at a time. Individuals with a turned eye have problem doing just that–they mentally have trouble wrapping their vision around more than one object at a time. Therefore, part of vision therapy involves getting the mind to get better at parallel processing — being able to do more than one thing at a time. An example of this can be found in playing sports. When playing basketball, you must be able to visually keep track of where the ball is, who your teammates are, where the basket is, where your opponents are, and so forth. Those with turned eyes have trouble mentally keeping track of all these different things at a time! So today, Dr. Benny Shao shared with us an activity called Slap Tap which does just that — gets you to mentally multi-task without getting lost or losing track of timing. Hope everyone had fun!
